Lakeridge Middle School PTO
Stay Informed Be Involved Invest in our Learning Community Lakeridge Middle School families (returning and new), we want to let you know how much you are appreciated. These first few months of school have been challenging, yet you are making it work. We also are doing our best to provide support to our LMS students, teachers, and staff. PTO membership for LMS families is now automatic (dues are no longer required), but PTO member donations are the funds that support the evolving needs of Lakeridge Middle School students.
Our students are the future, investing in their future today is essential for supporting their learning and social development. All PTO donations and funding will go towards our goal to benefit students during the 2020-2021 school year. Please consider a $100 gift or any amount that is meaningful to you. If you have questions, please email our PTO fundraising coordinator Sarah Howell. Please make your secure online donation by clicking the "Donate Today" button below!

; OREGON BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
Registration Deadline: Nov. 1st. OBOB signups are open! Find your team of 3 to 5 members and complete the Google Form to register. Deadline: Nov. 1st. Start Reading!
This year, the OBOB competition at LMS will be conducted remotely on a date to be determined in late February or early March. Even if we have returned to in-person instruction by that time, the event will be held over Zoom so that students in both AM and PM cohorts and LO Online students can all participate.
We understand that finding interested teammates might be a little more difficult this year than normal, so please be diligent in reaching out to friends and acquaintances who you know love to read. If you are not able to find a full team of at least 3 members by Nov. 1st, please sign up anyway at the link above and we will make an effort to match you with others in a similar situation.
What is OBOB? The Oregon Battle of the Books is a reading and trivia competition that serves as a statewide celebration of literacy and good books. Over 35,000 students across three divisions (3rd-5th, 6th-8th, and 9th-12th) from schools all over Oregon form teams of three to five members, then read and study from a common list of 16 books selected by the State OBOB committee each year. Last year, the books featured over 5,500 pages and over 1 million words of high-quality youth literature. We estimate that our LMS OBOBers read well over 20 million words last year as part of the program.

Student Clubs General Information
It is time for our after-school clubs to start. We hope to have several fun options for students to choose from. Research shows that kids who are involved and connected to school activities outside of class do better in class. In the past, our clubs have included Robotics, Arts & Crafts, Dungeons & Dragons, Queer Straight Alliance, Anime, Card Game Club, Jr. Thespians, and more! If there is not a club that matches a student's interest, they can start one by filling out our Club Application. Watch this space in the next few weeks as our returning clubs start-up and as we add new ones. Encourage your child to choose a way to connect that is right for them!
