  • Diversity and Inclusion

    The Lake Oswego School District celebrates diversity and inclusion. LOSD defines diversity as all the unique identities that our students and families bring to our schools. We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive space where children feel a sense of belonging, and where they can thrive regardless of their unique identities. 

    Diversity is key in developing four skills that are essential in the 21st century: communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. LOSD believes that embracing diversity and inclusion prepares students to become lifelong learners and contributing world citizens. 

    Equity and Access

    The Lake Oswego School District commits to achieving educational equity. (Equity Policy) LOSD defines equity as providing access to  what each and every student needs to be successful academically and socially. In order to achieve educational equity, LOSD is intentional about examining and removing systemic barriers that create different outcomes for students. The goal is to raise the academic and social achievement of all, while narrowing the opportunity gap amongst the different groups within the LOSD learning community.

  • Water Tower Incident: A Call for Compassion and Care

     

    It has come to our attention that one of the City’s water towers had been defaced with hurtful and hateful graffiti. Upon learning this, we immediately contacted the City to discuss and ensure clean up, which the City has completed.


    LOSD stands firm in our value of embracing diversity in all its forms, and condemns any act of hate that negatively affects our students and families of color. Most importantly, hateful language and symbols hurt the entire community and diminish the spirit of care that we advocate to strengthen. It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to ensure that every child and adult feels safe and that our differences and similarities as human beings are valued and respected.


    We are living in an exceedingly difficult era. People across our community and country are hurting in many ways. This is a time for increased compassion for one another and we implore each member of our community to reflect on how they are contributing to, or can contribute to, a greater sense of connection, understanding and care.
